How TRICARE Coverage Works

If you’re covered by TRICARE, here’s how it works:

  1. A diagnosis of Major Depressive Disorder is required.
  2. rTMS must be FDA-cleared for depression.
  3. Some TRICARE plans require a referral or authorization.
  4. Our New Patient Coordinator verifies your benefits and walks you through each step.

We help manage the logistics so you can focus on your care.

TRICARE Coverage for rTMS Treatment

We are in-network and contracted with TRICARE. TRICARE may cover rTMS treatment for depression if:

  • You have been diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder, Treatment-resistant Depression, or Depression associated with PTSD
  • You have tried and not responded adequately to prior treatment
  • You are enrolled in TRICARE Prime, Select, or West

Veterans receiving care through the VA may be eligible for treatment at our clinic with referral or authorization through the VA Community Care Network.

Coverage requirements vary by plan. Our team will confirm your eligibility before treatment begins.

What is rTMS?

Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) is a non-invasive treatment that uses gentle magnetic pulses to stimulate areas of the brain involved in mood regulation.

  • It does not require medication.
  • It does not require sedation.
  • You remain awake and alert during treatment.

rTMS has been FDA-approved for Major Depressive Disorder since 2008 and has been used safely in clinical practice for years.

What Makes Our rTMS Approach Different

At Brain Treatment Center Newport Beach, we deliver rTMS using FDA-cleared equipment and standard treatment protocols, and our clinical team may also incorporate EEG data into treatment planning to help inform individualized stimulation settings.

What this looks like in practice:

  • A qEEG recording to capture each patient’s unique brain activity patterns
  • rTMS protocols informed by both clinical evaluation and EEG data
  • Stimulation parameters set with the individual patient in mind
  • A treatment approach suited to patients with persistent or treatment-resistant depression

The goal is straightforward: precise, evidence-based care that reflects each patient’s clinical picture.

A Veteran’s Experience

“The treatment completely changed my life for the better. I was finally able to sleep through the night without medication, and my nightmares became few and far between. My anxiety eased, I could focus again, and I started doing the things I used to enjoy, like going to the gym, cooking, and reading. My fiancé and family said it felt like they had their ‘old’ Sarah back.”
